Emergency Exit

… I traveled back in Karlsruhe. And it is much warmer here than in my old hometown. But sadly my girl works there now, so I had go come back alone. On the other hand this will leave more time for coding Quake 2 PSP :)

The Quake 2 source code is not written for a system without virtual memory and the biggest memory usage is the level. I had known this issue since a long time, but I never took care. Finally I did. It was one of the bigger tasks in the portable Quake 2. But it will take some time before I release the next version. I will travel around in the last two week of my semester break. (more…)

The global warming happens and consequences are bad. These are the facts. Sadly global warming does not results in a better summer. The temperatures may climb but at least in Germany there it was raining most of the time.However I am not one of those activists trying to protect some whales. I do not care about whales. On the other hand I can not prognose the consequences if all the whales are gone, but it may be bad for the natural balance. Here is my profile: coder, who consumes a lot of electrical energy, too lazy to demostrate on the streets like a hippie, do not reduce the living standard. So what can I do to protect the environment?I could stop bathing, but this will result in stress with my girl. The answer is pretty simple: switch the light of when you leave the room, also your computer and your television. When you lgo away for 20 minutes, to eat something or take a shower and you switch of your power consuming devices it will save a lot of energy without bother you.A simple calculation: when your tv consumes 120 W, you will save 40 W.Another problem are the stand by devices. I will not plug off my tv or my computer, but I rarely use my scanner, so I plug it off. The most devices in stand by consume less than one Watt, but there are a lot of them and only the ones that are commonly used should stay in stand by. When I switch off my tv for 20 minutes it will save much more than stand by mode will in a few days.
It will be hard to stop the global warming, because there are a lot of people like me, that will not lower their living quality. But there is so much potential to stop global warming without touch the living standard. So begin there. This is my little value to save the planet, what is yours?
